Yemen Launches Retaliatory Drone Strike on Saudi Air Base

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A military spokesman said the Yemeni forces have launched a drone attack on an air base in the south-west of Saudi Arabia, near Khamis Mushait.

According to the spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Sare'e, a Qasef-2K drone was used in a retaliatory drone attack that struck the airbase at dawn Wednesday.

The attack was a "legitimate response to the escalation of Saudi violence and the continued siege on our dear country," according to Sare'e.

The airbase was targeted in a similar drone strike on Monday.

The aerial strike has been carried out with two Qasef-2K (Striker-2K) combat drones, the general noted, adding that the Saudi targets have been hit accurately in the attack.

Saudi Arabia and its regional allies, chiefly the United Arab Emirates (UAE), launched a war against Yemen in March 2015 to restore the government of fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who resigned in 2014 and then flee to Riyadh.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the war has killed almost a quarter of a million Yemenis, caused outbreaks of disease, turned Yemen into the world’s worst humanitarian crisis and brought the poor Arab country to the verge of famine.

Yemeni Armed Forces have repeatedly warned the Saudi regime to end its fighting, threatening the regime with larger operations if it continues its aggression and siege.

Yemen’s Air Force has stepped up the retaliatory attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent months.

Since the beginning of April, the Armed Forces have carried out 13 offensive operations with varying objectives and arms. The 30th of Shaaban Operation, which used 17 drones and ballistic missiles to attack Aramco refineries in the Jeddah and Jubail regions, as well as other critical targets in Jizan, was one of the most effective and largest.
