Coronavirus Cases in Iran Close to 2.5 Million

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the novel coronavirus in Iran is about to hit 2,500,000, the Health Ministry’s spokesperson said.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, Sima Lari said on Friday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,499,070 after the detection of 19,272 new cases since yesterday.

The pandemic has claimed 407 lives over the past 24 hours, while the overall coronavirus death toll in Iran stands at 71,758, she added.

More than 1,954,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Lari said.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 5,398 are being kept in the intensive care units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.

She also said more that more than 15.83 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and 858,296 people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 150 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.16 million.
