Spokesman Raps Moroccan FM’s Anti-Iran Accusations, Support for Israel

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry lashed out at Foreign Minister of Morocco Nasser Bourita for leveling baseless allegations against Iran and for voicing support for the Zionist regime.

In a statement on Saturday, Saeed Khatibzadeh dismissed the comments that Bourita has made in an online meeting with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) lobby’s members.

“Because of its inability to resolve its own regional problems, the government of Morocco has voiced support for the criminal Zionist regime and has once again repeated the bogus and groundless allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the spokesperson said.

He said such unfounded accusations against Iran only contribute to the American and Israeli plots in the region and work against the proponents of the righteous Palestinian cause.

“It’s a pity that the Moroccan government, which holds the presidency of (the OIC’s) Al-Quds Committee at present, is distracting attention from the Islamic world’s main issue, namely the struggle with aggression again holy al-Quds and defending the rights of the Palestinian nation, while the Muslim world needs unity and solidarity more than ever,” the Iranian spokesperson added.

His comments came after Bourita accused Iran of acting through its proxies to destabilize the African region and threaten the territorial integrity of Morocco.

“People know more about Iran's nuclear activities, but Iran is also acting through proxies to destabilize North and West Africa,” the Moroccan diplomat said in an interview with AIPAC TV channel on Thursday.

He also claimed that the renewal of relations between Morocco and Israel is a factor that will strengthen the dynamics of peace in the Middle East.
