Iran Wins Three More Golds at World Para Powerlifting World Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian powerlifters claimed three more gold medals on the final day of the 2021 World Para Powerlifting World Cup on Saturday.

There was not room for surprises in the male competitions. Iranian Worlds medalists Amir Jafari Arangeh (up to 65kg), Rouhollah Rostam (up to 80kg), Seyed Hamed Solhipour Avanji (up to 97kg), Saman Razi (up to 107kg) and Mansour Pourmirzaei (over 107kg) dominated the stage in their respective categories.

Hamed Solhipour Avanji claimed a gold medal at the men’s under-97 kg by lifting 227kg.

Iraqi Thaer Al-Ali and Malaysian Mohd Shahmil Md Saad won the silver and bronze medal, respectively.

Saman Razi won a gold medal in the men’s under -107kg with a 237kg lift.

Iraqi powerlifter Abbas Naisan and Malaysian Wan Nur Wan Azman from seized the silver and bronze medal, respectively.

Three-time World Championships medalist Mansour Pourmirzaei also won a gold medal in the men's over +107kg category by lifting 249kg.

Georgian powerlifter Iago Gorgodze snatched a silver medal and the bronze medal went to Kazakhstan’s Gani Issentemirov.

Nader Moradi also won a silver in the men’s under -72kg class.

Thailand won the team classification trophy with 72 points, followed by Iran with 71 points.

This was the first time Thailand staged a powerlifting World Cup, with competition running between May 6-8 and gathering 54 athletes from nine countries.

The World Cup season’s next stop is Tbilisi, Georgia, from May 20 to 23.
