Iran Foreign Ministry to Assist NOCI in Tokyo Olympics
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the country’s National Olympic Committee agreed to set up a joint committee to handle issues relating to the Tokyo Olympics, which have been delayed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh, who is also head of the ministry’s Center for Public and Media Diplomacy, paid a visit to the National Olympic Committee of Iran on Tuesday and met with its president, Reza Salehi Amiri.
After being briefed on the plans to develop the sports infrastructures in Iran and support professional athletes, Khatibzadeh expressed the Foreign Ministry’s readiness to work in full cooperation with the NOCI to contribute to strong and successful presence of the local athletes in the upcoming Summer Olympic Games, due to be held in Tokyo.
The spokesman also voiced the Foreign Ministry’s preparedness to help present the rich culture of Iran to the world in the upcoming international games.
The Foreign Ministry and the NOCI agreed to set up a joint committee to deal with the pertinent issues ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
The 2020 Olympics, which were delayed by a year due to the pandemic, are set to open on July 23, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and organizers insisting that measures will be put in place to ensure the safety of athletes and other visitors.
