TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri was among the prominent figures who submitted their candidacy for the upcoming presidential election on Saturday.
Jahangiri filed his application with the election headquarters at the Interior Ministry today, the final day of the registration process for presidential hopefuls.
Earlier in the day, Iran’s Judiciary Chief Hojatoleslam Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi and former Parliament speaker Ali Larijani also put their names down for the race.
Once hopefuls have registered, they will be subject to vetting by Iran’s Constitutional Council, a process that will take at least five days.
Slated for June 18, the presidential election in Iran will be held simultaneously with council and midterm parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections.
The director of the Elections Headquarters has said more than 59,310,000 Iranians are eligible to vote this year.
