Araqchi: Time for US to Make Difficult Decisions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s top negotiator in the latest round of negotiations on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal said the time has come for the US to make difficult decisions and resume honoring the JCOPA in full.

“I think this is the time for the US to make its difficult decisions to return to the JCPOA and resume the full implementation of its commitments under the JCPOA and lift all sanctions,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in an interview with NHK in Vienna on Wednesday.

“We leave Vienna today with hope that we would resume our job next week and hopefully we can conclude it,” the Iranian diplomat added.

The most recent round of JCPOA negotiations that have begun on April 6 examine the potential of revitalization of the nuclear deal and the US’ likely return to it.

The US left the JCPOA in 2018 and restored the economic sanctions that the accord had lifted. Tehran retaliated with remedial nuclear measures that it is entitled to take under the JCPOA’s Paragraph 36.

Elsewhere in his comments, Araqchi said there were still some key issues left to be decided.

Asked about Iran’s continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he said the Iranian government would decide later.
