Rouhani Urges High Turnout in Iran Presidential Election

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of Iran Hassan Rouhani described popular votes as a guarantee of the establishment’s legitimacy and a symbol of freedom of choice, calling on all people to attend the upcoming polls that will elect his successor.

Speaking at a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani called on all Iranian people to take part in the June 18 election with full insight.

He said his administration has taken whatever measure necessary to pave the way for a high turnout in the presidential election, and now it is up to people to choose the next president.

The criterion will be the choice of people, who should go to the polling stations with complete freedom and understanding, Rouhani stated, stressing that the election should result in national unity and solidarity.

“A magnificent election in the country guarantees the legitimacy of the establishment,” the president stated.

The 13th presidential election in Iran will be held on June 18.

Seven candidates have been deemed qualified by the Constitutional Council to take part in the race.

More than 59,310,000 Iranians are eligible to vote this year.
