Iran’s Coronavirus Cases Top Three Million: Health Ministry

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of verified COVID-19 cases in Iran topped three million on Thursday, according to the health ministry, while daily cases and deaths continued to decline after spiking in April.

The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran has risen to 81,672, with 153 more Iranians succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.

Over the last 24 hours, 12,398 new cases of COVID-19 infection were discovered, with 1,491 of them requiring hospitalization, according to the ministry.

It said 2,612,091 persons have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 3,003,112 inffected people.

Some 3,549 COVID-19 patients are in critical condition in intensive care units, it added.

The ministry went on to say that 21,194,370 coronavirus diagnosis tests have so far been carried out across the country.

It also announced that 4,289,395 Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine and 742,817 people have so far received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 175 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.77 million.
