In a letter to his Filipino counterpart Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday, President Rouhani congratulated the Philippines on the anniversary of gaining independence from Spain.

Highlighting the historical background of relations between Iran and the Philippines and their potential capacities, Rouhani expressed hope that two Asian nations would enhance the bilateral, regional and international cooperation and mark a new chapter in the bilateral ties.

He also wished the Philippines prosperity and success.

Iran and the Philippines started bilateral relations in 1974.

In recent years, the two governments have ramped up efforts to enhance the political, economic and cultural ties.
