Iran Won’t Negotiate Forever: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said an agreement at the conclusion of the talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal will be possible if the US administration ditches its predecessor’s policies, but made it clear that Tehran will not negotiate endlessly.

In a post on his Twitter account on Saturday, Saeed Khatibzadeh highlighted Iran’s active partnership in the negotiations to resuscitate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action despite the US’ obstructions.

“Out of a steadfast commitment to salvage a deal that the US tried to torpedo, Iran has been the most active party in Vienna, proposing most drafts,” he said.

“Still believe a deal is possible, if the US decides to abandon Trump's failed legacy,” Khatibzadeh added.

“Iran will not negotiate forever,” the spokesman underscored.

The latest round of talks to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action has begun in Vienna on April 6 between Iran and the remaining members of the nuclear deal, namely the UK, France, Russia and China plus Germany.

The US left the JCPOA in 2018 and restored the economic sanctions that the accord had lifted. Tehran retaliated with remedial nuclear measures that it is entitled to take under the JCPOA’s Paragraph 36.

The current negotiations examine the potential of revitalization of the nuclear deal and the US’ likely return to it.
