COVID Death Toll in Iran Close to 84,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran is about to hit 84,000 after 140 fatalities were reported from Sunday to Monday.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Monday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from the novel coronavirus in Iran at 83,985, saying the disease has taken the lives of 140 patients over the past 24 hours.

She also noted that at least 2,848,042 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has surpassed 3.18 million following the detection of 12,351 new cases since Sunday noon, the spokeswoman added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,185 patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 23.42 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 4.42 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 181 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.94 million.
