Iran to Open Soil Mechanics Lab in Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Technical and Soil Mechanics Laboratory company of Iran, affiliated with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, is cooperating with Afghanistan to establish a soil mechanics institute in the neighboring country that would offer help in dam construction projects.

CEO of Iran’s Technical and Soil Mechanics Lab. Co. unveiled plans for the promotion of cooperation with six neighboring and regional countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Qatar.

Programs have been devised to tap into the Iranian elites’ technical know-how to provide services for various organizations and export the exclusive technical and engineering services for the other countries, Majid Kianpoor told Tasnim.

He also unveiled plans to open a soil mechanics institute in Afghanistan, like the specialized laboratory operating in Iran.

“At present, many of the technical tests in the dam construction projects in Afghanistan are conducted in the Technical and Soil Mechanics Lab (of Iran), such as the (tests for the construction of) Shah wa Arus Dam,” he noted.

Iran and Afghanistan have ramped up efforts in recent years to enhance academic cooperation and scientific collaboration in various fields.
