Taliban Claim Responsibility for Attack on Afghan Defense Minister's Residence

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on Afghan defense minister's residence on Tuesday evening, saying the group conducted the suicide attack and inflicted casualties.

"A few suicide bombers, after detonating an explosive-laden car, entered the residence of the defense minister of Kabul administration and inflicted huge casualties on enemies," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in his twitter account on Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Mujahid also said that the "Mujahideen" (holy warriors) of the "Islamic Emirate" will not stay indifferent to the attacks of the Kabul administration against them.

A group of militants detonated a car bomb next to the house of Afghan Defense Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi on Tuesday evening, triggering a five-hour gun battle and leaving 12 dead, including four attackers and eight civilians.

The blast and gunfire have also left 22 more persons, mostly civilians, injured.

The defense minister said he and his family members are safe after the attack.
