Greece Eyes Closer Ties with Iran As Raisi Assumes Power


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Greece congratulated her Iranian counterpart on taking office, expressing confidence about the promotion of ties between Athens and Tehran.

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou sent a message to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Monday, congratulating him on taking office.

The relations between Greece and Iran are friendly, historical and based upon mutual respect, she noted in the message.

Sakellaropoulou also expressed confidence that Greece and Iran will continue to broaden their relations to serve the interests of the two nations as well as the stability, security and welfare beyond the region.

Raisi was sworn in as the eighth president of Iran on August 5.
