Afghanistan’s Neighbors to Hold Online Meeting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A meeting of the neighbors of Afghanistan will be held via video conference within the next few days.

In a telephone conversation on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi talked about the latest developments in Afghanistan.

In the conversation, which followed the Iranian foreign minister’s consultations with his Russian and Chinese counterparts, it was agreed that the meeting of neighbors of Afghanistan would be held at the level of special envoys and foreign ministers via video conference within the next few days.

The Taliban have taken over Afghanistan following the United States’ abrupt military withdrawal that put an end to a futile two-decade war.

Tehran has recommended that Afghan groups should seize the opportunity provided by the pullout of the foreign troops to form an inclusive government with amicable relations with neighbors.
