Iranian Foreign Minister Picks New Deputies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian selected three new deputies, urging them to pursue what he called a “balanced, active and dynamic” foreign policy agenda.

The top Iranian diplomat on Tuesday appointed Ali Baqeri as the deputy foreign minister for political affairs, Mohammad Fathali as the deputy for administrative and financial affairs, and Mahdi Safari as the deputy for economic diplomacy.

Baqeri has replaced Abbas Araqchi, who played a leading role in the nuclear negotiations between Iran and world powers that resulted in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2015 and also in the extensive talks for the revival of the deal after 2018.

In the decrees, Amirabdollahian wished his new deputies success in doing their duties to fulfill the Foreign Ministry’s strategies, particularly a balanced, active, dynamic and smart foreign policy.
