Over 17,000 New COVID Cases Detected in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran in the past 24 hours stood above 17,500 cases.

The Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has surpassed 5,459,700 after the detection of 17,564 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 2,581 patients have been admitted to the hospital, it added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 6,661 coronavirus patients are being kept in the intensive care units because of more severe infection.

The ministry further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 117,905, saying the disease has taken the lives of 379 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 4,819,200 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran.

The ministry also said over 31.35 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine, while over 14.41 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world is about to hit 229 million and the death toll exceeds 4.71 million.
