TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian parliamentary delegation traveled to Portugal for a series of meetings.
The members of Iran-Portugal Parliamentary Friendship Group left Tehran for Lisbon on Monday morning at the invitation of their Portuguese peers.
The Iranian delegation is comprised of lawmakers from the Parliament’s national security and foreign policy, economic, cultural, and agricultural commissions.
Earlier and in a meeting with his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian voiced Tehran’s readiness for cooperation with Portugal in the battle against terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crimes.
Pointing to the 500-year history of the relations between Iran and Portugal as a major asset in their friendly ties, Amirabdollahian said Portugal has an important standing both in the European Union and in terms of geopolitical position.
The top Iranian diplomat also noted that scientific cooperation and collaboration among universities are among the key elements in bilateral ties that can be further developed.
