Cyclone Shaheen Makes Landfall in SE Iran (+Video)

Director of Crisis Management Department of Sistan and Balouchestan Province Alireza Shahraki said that at least two fishing boats have sunk due to severity of the impact by storm and heavy rains.

Further reports indicated that the cyclonic storm has reached the city of Zahedan, the capital city of Sistan and Balouchestan Province in southeastern Iran.

According to an update from India Meteorological Department, the storm is expected to move towards Oman’s coast across the Gulf of Oman and weaken gradually.

Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority has issued an alert which puts Shaheen into a category 1 tropical cyclone. The CAA said that the storm will directly impact coastal areas, including the capital Muscat from Sunday.

Shaheen was formed after the remnants of Gulab, which crossed India’s north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha on September 26, traversed central and west India and emerged into the Arabian Sea on September 30.
