Iran Urges Azerbaijan to Bar Third Parties from Its Soil

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry called on the Republic of Azerbaijan to prevent third parties from using its territories and border.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh denounced the comments and measures from the Zionist regime made from inside the Republic of Azerbaijan against the Iranian nation.

“We have reminded our colleagues in Baku of this issue, and they said overtly and covertly that they would give warnings. Baku should not allow third parties to use its borders and territories,” he said.

Iran knows well how to protect its security, but the right thing would be for the Republic of Azerbaijan to fulfill its duties concerning its sovereignty, the spokesman added.

Asked about the Armenian foreign minister’s visit to Tehran, Khatibzadeh said the trip had been arranged beforehand and is made for talks on the bilateral ties and the promotion of political, economic and cultural relations.

“Tehran has good relations with both Baku and Yerevan. Its relations with no country are against any other country, as Iran’s foreign policy has been based upon an inclusivist view,” the Iranian spokesman said.

Pointing to the growing trend in the relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, Khatibzadeh said, “Iran has been consistently pursuing its principled policy (on Azerbaijan) in recent months. We have had different levels of ties and interaction with Baku. Let’s have the negotiations continue in the same channel. Such relations do not require some deplorable media comments.”

On the detention of Iranian truck drivers in Azerbaijan, the spokesman said such mistreatment of Iranian drivers does not comply with the norms of good neighborliness.

“The officials in Baku should be more careful about their border guards’ treatment of Iranian nationals,” he underlined.
