The senior Iranian diplomat, who has traveled to Beirut for an official visit, had a meeting with the officials of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council of Lebanon on Thursday.

Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian also held talks with the family of Imam Mousa Sadr to offer his condolences on the passing away of Imam Musa Sadr’s wife and the former speaker of the Lebanese Shiite Supreme Council, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan.

The foreign minister also conveyed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s message of condolences to the families of Imam Musa Sadr and Sheikh Qabalan, as well as to the leaders of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council of Lebanon.

Sheikh Qabalan passed away in September at the age of 85.

The Supreme Islamic Shiite Council of Lebanon is the most prominent body representing the adherents of Shiism in Lebanon. Qabalan assumed its speakership in 2000 given his vast contribution to the promotion of Shiite Islam’s values in the Arab country and beyond as well as his position as an eminent religious scholar.
