Speaking to Tasnim on Tuesday evening, Fereidoon Hassanvand said a “targeted operation” has hit the gas stations, but the people in charge were handling the problem.

He said the problem has been resolved in most gas stations and will end completely in the coming hours.

The lawmaker also quashed rumors liking the problem to a possible hike in the fuel price.

The countrywide technical failure that occurred at around 11 am local time shut down a government system that manages fuel subsidies.

The Nour News, affiliated with the Supreme National Security Council, confirmed in a report that the disruption has been caused by a cyber-attack.

It noted that the technical experts were dealing with the problem and that details of the cyber-attack will be made public later.

The IRIB said the Oil Ministry officials were holding an “emergency meeting” to address the problem.

Most Iranians rely on the government subsidies to fuel their vehicles.
