Around 8,400 New COVID Cases Detected in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran in the past 24 hours declined remarkably compared to the daily rates over the past weeks, standing at below 8,500 cases.

The Health Ministry announced on Sunday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has surpassed 5,924,600 after the detection of 8,427 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,108 patients have been admitted to the hospital, it added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,888 coronavirus patients are being kept in the intensive care units because of more severe infection, the ministry said.

It further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 126,303, saying the disease has taken the lives of 177 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 5,508,800 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, it said, adding that more than 52.61 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 34.48 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world is about to hit 247 million and the death toll exceeds 5.01 million.
