In remarks at the 9th meeting of Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee, held on Saturday, Abdul Razak Dawood said Pakistan is willing to expand the trade relations with Iran.

“Pakistan is eager for the progress and promotion of relations (with Iran) in various trade fields, including the shipment of goods, bartering commodities, reduction of tariffs, and creation of border markets in the free trade routes,” he said.

Highlighting Islamabad’s efforts to remove the obstacles in the way of trade with Tehran, the Pakistani official called for the implementation of plans for strategic cooperation between the two neighbors.

In separate comments at the meeting, Iranian Minister of Industry Reza Fatemi Amin said Iran and Pakistan will sign and carry out a free trade agreement within the next three months.

The minister also noted that the both countries are determined to raise the level of annual trade exchange to $5 billion, stressing that their bilateral trade should not be confined to the exchange of commodities but should entail investment from the Pakistani companies in Iran as well.

Attended by senior Iranian and Pakistani officials and business people, the 9th meeting of Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee discusses initiatives to promote economic cooperation and business between the two neighbors.
