Intelligence Forces Seize over 25 Tons of Illicit Drugs in Iran’s SE City

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Intelligence Ministry said its forces have managed to capture more than 25 tons of illicit drugs in the southeastern city of Zahedan during the first six months of the current Iranian year, which started on March 21.

The Intelligence Ministry said in a statement that the anti-narcotics operations against drug traffickers and smuggling rings in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan have resulted in the seizure of more than 25 tons of drugs during the first half of the current Iranian year.

It also noted that 36 criminals have been arrested and two have been killed in the operations, while 36 vehicles and 3 assault rifles have been confiscated.

The Iranian Police and security forces have been quite successful in ensuring security in the large province Sistan and Balouchestan despite its long borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, harsh weather and vast desert areas.

Iran, which has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.
