In a statement released on Saturday night, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh condemned the attack on the building of Iran’s consulate general in Hamburg.
He urged the German government to fulfill its obligation to take action seriously and responsibly to provide security of the diplomatic missions of Iran in Germany in line with the Vienna Convention.
The spokesman also said the German government is expected to take effective and sustainable measures to prevent the repetition of such acts of aggression, launch an investigation into the details of the incident, and punish the perpetrators of the attack, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
The attack that took place in Winterhude district resulted in some damage to the building, but no one was reported hurt.
According to the German newspaper Bild, the driver of a passing car saw smoke rising from the entrance of the Iranian consulate on Friday and also two men who were speeding away from the area.
Local media reported that the fire was caused by a Molotov cocktail thrown by the assailant or assailants.
