Iran Raps Abuse of Human Rights for Pressuring Others

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi lashed out at the hegemonic powers for exploiting the issue of human rights to put pressure on developing nations.

In a meeting with the new Dutch ambassador to Tehran on Tuesday, Raisi bemoaned the fact the hegemony system has used the human rights as an excuse to pressurize developing countries, like Iran.

He noted that Iran feels duty-bound, on the basis of its religious and revolutionary teachings, to respect the rights of people, a clear sign of which is that it hosts four million Afghans.

Pointing to the existence of hundreds of mosques in the Netherlands, the Iranian president stated that respecting the rights of Muslims would contribute to the promotion of culture and civilization in Europe.

He also called on the Netherlands to remain independent and not come under the influence of the hegemony.

Hailing the age-old economic, cultural and trade relations between Tehran and Amsterdam, the president stressed the need for the promotion of mutual cooperation in the technological fields, specifically the environmental issues and water management.

For his part, the new Dutch ambassador, Frank Mollen, pointed to the history of 400 years of relations with Iran, which he said has been always a major trade destination for the Netherlands.

Iran is a powerful country in the region and there are good opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries, the envoy added.

He also praised Iran for hosting a large population of Afghan refugees.
