Iran, Oman Discuss Enhancement of Military Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ranking commanders from Iran and Oman weighed plans for the promotion of military cooperation between the two neighbors and joint action in the fight against terrorism.

Heading a military delegation, Assistant Chief of Staff of the Sultanate of Oman's Armed Forces for Operations and Planning Brigadier General Staff Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Mandhari met with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri in Tehran on Monday.

The meeting was held as part of plans to expand the military and international cooperation between Tehran and Muscat.

The senior commanders talked about a range of issues in the meeting, including the promotion of relations between the two neighbors in the military and training fields.

They also weighed plans for cooperation in the fight against terrorism and ensuring security in the region without foreign interference.

In April 2019, high-ranking military officials from Iran and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation between the two neighboring countries in various military spheres.

The two neighbors have held several joint naval drills in recent years.
