Iran Registers Lowest Daily COVID Death Toll in 20 Months

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of patients who have died of the coronavirus infection in Iran over the past 24 hours stood at 34, the lowest death toll in the past 580 days.

The Iranian Health Ministry put the total deaths from COVID-19 in the country at 131,434 on Monday, saying the disease has taken the lives of 34 patients over the past 24 hours, the lowest toll in 580 days.

Over the past 24 hours, 1,967 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 344 of them hospitalized, the ministry added.

More than 6,028,400 individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6,186,700 ones who have contracted the disease.

Some 2,766 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that over 59.59 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 51.4 million have received the second dosage, and more than 6.34 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 280 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.41 million.
