Coronavirus Cases in Iran Exceed 6.2 Million


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran surpassed 6,200,000 on Tuesday, while more than 6.04 million patients have recovered across the country.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 6,200,200 after the detection of 1,706 new cases since yesterday.

Over the past 24 hours, 358 COVID patients have been hospitalized, the Health Ministry said.

It put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 131,736, saying the disease has taken the lives of 34 patients over the past 24 hours.

Some 2,470 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that over 59.95 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 52.26 million have received the second dosage, and more than 8.75 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 293 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.46 million.
