Iran Ready for Regional Cooperation within Bilateral, Multilateral Formats: FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran expressed the country’s readiness for closer interaction with regional countries within the framework of bilateral and multilateral programs.

In a meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, held in Doha on Tuesday, Hossein Amirabdollahian voiced Iran’s readiness to promote cooperation with the regional countries within the bilateral or multilateral formats.

Highlighting the Iranian administration’s policy of expansion of ties with the neighbors, the foreign minister stressed the need for the high-ranking Iranian and Qatari delegations to make reciprocal visits for consultations.

He also reviewed the latest developments in the political, security, and trade ties between Tehran and Doha, pointed to the ample opportunities for the enhancement of economic cooperation, and stressed the need to step up economic interaction between the two neighbors.

For his part, the Qatari emir emphasized the importance of ties with Iran and cooperation on the regional issues, expressing his country’s readiness to boost relations with the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian foreign minister and the Qatari emir also talked about the course of developments in the Vienna talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal and the termination of sanctions on Iran, as well as issues relating to Afghanistan and Yemen.

Amirabdollahian has traveled to Qatar after a visit to Oman.
