Syria Football Federation Sacks Valeriu Tita

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian Football Association (SFA) announced that it has decided to part ways with head coach Valeriu Tita following the 2-0 defeat to Korea Republic in Group A of the AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to Qatar.

The 55-year-old Romanian took charge of Syria last November, leading the team in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup before failing to pick up any points against UAE and Korea Republic in the AFC Asian Qualifiers.

Tita, in his second stint with the Syria national team, replaced local coach Nizar Mahrous who was removed after poor performances at the start of the AFC Asian Qualifiers.

“The temporary committee of the Syrian Football Association decided to dissolve the administrative staff of the first national team…along with the technical staff who failed to add the necessary value to the national team after losing against UAE and Korea Republic and officially lost the chance to qualify to the World Cup,” read the Syrian FA statement.

“A new administrative and technical staff will be announced later for the last two matches in the qualifiers against Lebanon and Iraq.”

Syria is in Group A along with Iran, Korea Republic, Iraq, the UAE and Lebanon.
