Iran Backs Stability in Kazakhstan, Warns of Foreign Interference in Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed the country’s support for security, stability and calm in the Republic of Kazakhstan, warning that foreign interference poses a challenge to regional stability.

In a telephone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Wednesday, Raisi cautioned that any foreign interference would upset stability in the region.

He said Iran attaches importance to the security, stability and peace of the friendly and brotherly country, Kazakhstan, adding, "We support the establishment of peace and stability in the region."

Referring to a recent meeting with Tokayev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Summit in Tajikistan, Raisi said, "As I emphasized during that meeting, the current level of bilateral economic and trade relations and cooperation is not commensurate with the level of political relations and I hope in the thirtieth year of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries, we will take a big step towards improving the level of economic interaction."

For his part, Tokayev thanked Iran for its support for the region's independence and said, "In the 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have been able to achieve a desirable level of close and friendly relations with each other, and I am sure that the future of bilateral relations will be very fruitful and bright."

The Kazakh president also said that the growing relations with Iran, especially in the field of economic and trade cooperation, is very important to him, the Iranian president’s official website reported.

Tokayev expressed hope that the forthcoming meeting of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission and the reciprocal visits would make a great leap in the relations between Nur-Sultan and Tehran.
