Pandemic in Iran: New COVID Cases Surpass 16,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of people diagnosed with the coronavirus in Iran in the past 24 hours has exceeded 16,000, while the daily death toll has increased to 185.

Figures released by the Iranian Health Ministry on Wednesday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 185 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 134,238.

According to the statistics, 16,310 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 2,275 of them hospitalized.

More than 6.37 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6,876,500 who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.

Some 3,607 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that over 61.77 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 54.89 million have received the second dosage, and more than 21.68 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 416 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.85 million.
