Iran Learns Fate at AFC U-23 Asian Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran discovered its fate at the 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan on Thursday.

The Iranian team has been drawn in Group A along with host Uzbekistan, Qatar and Turkmenistan.

Korea Republic, the defending champion, is pitted against ASEAN trio of Thailand, the 2018 runner-up Vietnam and Malaysia in Group C.

Australia, third in the 2020 edition, was drawn in Group B with Jordan, Iraq and Kuwait while Japan, the 2016 champion, is in Group D with 2020 runner-up Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and debutant Tajikistan.

The fifth edition of the Championship will be played in Central Asia for the first time, with Uzbekistan hosting 32 matches in the cities of Tashkent and Karshi.

Four former champions and nine teams to have reached the semi-finals or better within the last decade alongside two debutants will battle for Continental supremacy from June 1 to 19.
