COVID Cases in Iran Close to 7 Million

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people who have been infected with the coronavirus in Iran since the outbreak of the pandemic is about to hit 7 million, while more than 6.56 million patients have recovered across the country.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 6,998,900 after the detection of 15,340 new cases since yesterday.

Over the past 24 hours, 2,333 COVID patients have been hospitalized, the Health Ministry said.

It put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 135,726, saying the disease has taken the lives of 227 patients over the past 24 hours.

Some 3,984 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that over 62.64 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 55.26 million have received the second dosage, and more than 22.61 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 428 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.92 million.
