TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a congratulatory message to Ghana on its Independence Day, the president of Iran hoped for the expansion of “friendly” relations between Tehran and Accra in various fields.

Politics

In a message on Sunday, President Ebrahim Raisi congratulated his Ghanaian counterpart Nana Akufo-Addo on the African country’s Independence Day.

In his letter, the Iranian president expressed hope that the determination of the two countries’ officials would help Tehran and Accra strengthen and broaden their friendly relations in all fields of mutual interest.

Independence Day is an official state holiday celebrated in Ghana on March 6. It marks the declaration of independence from Britain in 1957.

In February 2016, Ghana’s then-president John Dramani Mahama paid a visit to Tehran.

It was the first visit by a Ghanaian president to Iran in 37 years.

During that trip, the two sides signed two memorandums of understanding to promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture and standards.
