Russia Confirms Meeting with Ukraine Foreign Minister in Turkey

TEHRAN(Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine will hold a meeting in Turkey on Thursday, a Russian foreign ministry spokesperson said.

The meeting between Sergey Lavrov and Dmitry Kuleba will take place on the sidelines of a diplomatic forum in the Turkish city of Antalya that the two ministers plan to attend.

“We believe that since Ukraine has confirmed it, the meeting will indeed take place, particularly because it was initiated by Turkey, the host of the event on the sidelines of which the meeting is expected to be held,” Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova told Sputnik radio station, TASS reported.

The spokesperson responded to whether the Russian foreign minister’s agenda included a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart.

On Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that Ankara had proposed to organize a meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum between Mar.11-13.

Russian and Ukrainian negotiators have held three rounds of negotiations since Moscow launched a military offensive against the neighboring country on Feb.24.

The third round of talks, held on Monday in Belovezhskaya Pushcha in Belarus’s Brest region close to the border with Poland, ended with some advances in the logistics of the humanitarian corridors to evacuate the civilian population.
