Over 25 Million Iranians Get COVID Booster Shots


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 25 million people in Iran have received a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine, known as the booster shot.

New figures released by the Health Ministry indicate that more than 144.8 million doses of coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the country as of Sunday, with over 63.56 million people having received the first dose, more than 56.17 million fully vaccinated, and 25,061,196 adults having gotten the third dose.

While more than 48.25 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far, the total number of people tested positive has exceeded 7,123,000 following the detection of 3,330 new cases since Saturday.

Of the new cases detected in the past 24 hours, 610 patients have been admitted to the hospital.

At least 6,779,400 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran.

The ministry also put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 138,949, saying the disease has taken the lives of 118 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 2,832 coronavirus patients are in the intensive care units.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 457 million and the death toll has exceeded 6.06 million.
