Iran Urges OIC to Avoid Divisive Issues

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian hoped for closer unity and solidarity among members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), stressing that the organization should stay away from the issues that may harm Muslim unity.

In a telephone conversation on Monday, Amirabdollahian and his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin talked about the issues mooted at the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Islamabad.

Congratulating Tajikistan on the Persian New Year and the start of the new solar century, the Iranian foreign minister expressed hope that the new year would be full of beauties for the world’s people and the regional countries.

Amirabdollahian also extended the Iranian president’s greetings to Tajikistan’s president and renewed President Ebrahim Raisi’s invitation of his Tajik counterpart to visit Tehran.

The Iranian foreign minister also referred to the meeting of the OIC foreign ministers in Pakistan and expressed hope that with the efforts by the member states, the organization would be a venue for solidarity among the Islamic community and avoid the issues that could damage unity and cohesion of the organization and the Muslims.

For his part, Muhriddin, who was speaking from Islamabad, underlined the need to preserve unity in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The foreign ministers of Iran and Tajikistan also discussed the issues relating to the next conference on Afghanistan that is going to take place in China next week, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
