Iran Reiterates Need for Inclusive Government in Afghanistan


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed hope that the immediate formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan would help the neighboring country in the fight against terrorism and broaden its cooperation with regional states.

In a telephone conversation with Amirabdollahian on Sunday, former Afghan president Hamid Karzai congratulated the Iranian people and government on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

Referring to the recent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and condemning blind terrorism that targets innocent people, Karzai said Afghanistan’s future is shaped by cooperation between all ethnic groups and people from all walks of life.

The former Afghan president also appreciated the cooperation and assistance from Afghanistan’s neighbors and Iran for the Afghan people in the efforts to overcome the current difficulties.

For his part, Amirabdollahian congratulated Karzai as well as the Afghan officials and people on Eid al-Fitr, and asked God Almighty for the honor, prosperity and happiness for the Afghan people.

The top Iranian diplomat also expressed hope that with the acceleration of the process of forming an inclusive government and the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan, the way would be paved for the Afghans to expand cooperation with the neighbors and other countries in the region.
