Daily COVID Deaths in Iran Down to Single-Digit Number

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The daily death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran declined to below 10 on Wednesday for the first time after more than two years.

The figures released by the Iranian Health Ministry on Wednesday indicate that the total deaths from COVID-19 in the country have reached 141,138, as the pandemic has taken the lives of 7 patients over the past 24 hours.

It was the first time that Iran recorded single-digit COVID-related fatalities after 796 days.

Over the past 24 hours, 252 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 66 of them hospitalized, the ministry added.

More than 6.99 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 7,223,000 ones who have contracted the disease, it said.

Some 1,024 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it added.

The ministry also said that over 64.35 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 57.57 million have received the second dosage, and more than 27.08 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 514 million and the death toll has exceeded 6.26 million.
