Iran Ready to Provide Ghana with Technical, Engineering Services

Ghana’s Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism Mohammed Awal Ibrahim, who has visited Tehran to attend the 7th session of Iran-Ghana joint cooperation commission, met with the Iranian foreign minister on Tuesday.

In the meeting, also attended by Ghana’s Deputy Foreign Minister Thomas Mbomba, the two sides discussed various issues of mutual interest.

Pointing to a new session of the Iran-Ghana joint cooperation commission as a sign of the firm determination of both sides to develop their ties, Amirabdollahian said the meeting indicates Iran’s pragmatic approach to the enhancement of ties and cooperation.

The top diplomat noted that the Iranian government is firmly committed to the expansion of relations and implementation of agreements, and to this end, necessary measures will be taken at the earlier opportunity and delegates will be exchanged to draw a road map to Iran-Ghana ties.

Amirabdollahian also referred to Iran’s capabilities in the fields of health, agriculture, industry, knowledge-based companies and also exports of technical and engineering services, saying Tehran is ready to cooperate with Ghana in those spheres, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The foreign minister further thanked Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture for its efforts as the body in charge of the joint commission and expressed hope that relations between Iran and Ghana would be further expanded.

Amirabdollahian also pointed to Iran’s valuable experience in fighting terrorism and extremism in the region, saying the issue is one of the concerns of African countries.

He finally underlined Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Ghana in combating terrorism, particularly in intelligence sharing.

For his part, Ghana’s minister of culture appreciated Iran’s support for his country and the people of Ghana in the fields of agriculture, health and education.

Mohammed Awal Ibrahim also called for the promotion of cooperation with Iran in other areas including sea and air transport and for establishing a direct flight in order to expand the tourism industry, especially medical tourism.

The Ghanaian minister then pointed to the potentials of West Africa, calling Ghana a gateway to the region and to the expansion of relations with other regional countries.

He also welcomed Amirabdollahian's proposals for the expansion of relations and at the same time underlined the importance of exchanging delegations. He invited the Iranian foreign minister to visit Ghana.

He further spoke about the good and growing ties between Iran and Ghana and reaffirmed his country’s readiness to develop ties in all spheres.
