Esteghlal Remains Unbeaten in Iran Professional League

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal football team made history in the Iran Professional League (IPL), becoming the first undefeated team in the league’s history.

On Monday, Esteghlal drew 0-0 with Naft Masjed Soleyman at a packed Azadi Stadium in Tehran.

Persepolis is the most decorated team in IPL, winning the title seven times, followed by Sepahan (five times) and Esteghlal (four times).

Paykan and Mes Rafsanjan also shared the spoils in a goalless draw in Tehran.

The IPL, formerly known as the Iran Pro League, is the highest division of professional football in Iran. It is the top-level football league in Iran since its foundation in November 2001. Each year, its top team becomes the Iranian football champion, and the two lowest finishers are relegated to the Azadegan League.

Since 2013, the league comprises 16 teams. The winner and runner-up of the IPL along with the Hazfi Cup champion automatically qualify for the AFC Champions League group stages. The third of the IPL will qualify for the AFC Champions League Play-off round.
