Modi Voices India’s Willingness to Bolster Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his country’s readiness to develop and strengthen relation with Iran in all areas.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian who is in India on an official visit met and held talks with Modi on Wednesday.

He referred to the negotiations with Indian officials during his visit to New Delhi and underlined the shared views of Iran and India in the talks.

Amirabdollahian enumerated the different areas of cooperation between Iran and India.

The Indian prime minister, for his part, spoke about his good memories of Iran during his visit to the Islamic Republic and sent his regards to the leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution and also the Iranian president.

Modi referred to the historical and civilizational background of the Tehran-New Delhi ties, saying the COVID pandemic slowed the relations between the two nations.

He expressed hope that, following the pandemic's end, Tehran and New Delhi can give momentum to their ties in all spheres, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The Indian premier pointed to the existing bilateral agreements in various fields. Modi announced his country’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Iran, especially with regard to transit routes.

In response to an invitation by the Iranian president to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran, Modi welcomed the trip and in return invited the Iranian president to visit India.
