The delegation of Iran, led by Ali Asghar Khaji, senior advisor to the country’s foreign minister for special political affairs, held a meeting with the Turkish delegation at the 18th Astana platform conference in Kazakhstan’s capital, Nur-Sultan, on Thursday.

Khaji reviewed the latest political and field developments in Syria at the meeting, underlining that Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are untouchable.

He also referred to the US’ illegal presence in the east of the Euphrates River, and called for an end to the plundering of Syria’s natural resources and to the US’ discriminatory behavior and its refusal to remove the anti-Syrian sanctions.

The Iranian diplomat emphasized the need for the lifting of all sanctions on Syria without any political preconditions or discrimination.

Khaji also condemned the Zionist regime’s increasing acts of aggression, saying Iran is worried about the continuation of the Israeli attacks on Syria, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

In the meeting, the Iranian and Turkish teams reaffirmed the need to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The representatives of Iran, Russia and Turkey –the three guarantors of the Astana Process on Syria- expressed their commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter at the 18th International Meeting on Syria in the Kazakh capital on July 16.
