Rocket Sirens Triggered in Occupied Palestinian Territories
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Sirens were heard in parts of occupied Palestinian territories Sunday night due to a reported cyberattack on local public address systems, Israel's Home Front Command said on Monday.
Israeli media reported that false rocket warning sirens that were activated across parts of both Jerusalem al-Quds and Eilat on Sunday evening may have been caused by a cyberattack, the Israeli army confirmed on Monday morning.
During the evening on Sunday, rocket sirens sounded across several Jerusalem al-Quds neighborhoods including Talpiot, Katamon, and Beit Hakerem, as well as in Eilat for close to an hour. The reason for this was said to be a system malfunction by the army, although the cause of it was unknown.
However, on Monday morning, Army Radio reported that the Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD) suspected that a cyberattack was behind the system malfunction, which the INCD then confirmed shortly after the initial report was published.
The INCD suspects that the attack was directed against the municipal siren systems rather than through the army Home Front Command alert system, and it was through accessing this that the attackers managed to activate the alarms.
Since last night sirens have sounded several times in at least five major occupied cities for about 50 minutes and forced 30,000 Zionist settlers to flee to rocket shelters.
