Iran, Uzbekistan Discuss Afghan Developments

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's special representative for Afghanistan and the foreign minister of Uzbekistan held talks about a range of issues with the focus on the situation in Afghanistan.

The Iranian special envoy, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, met with Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov in Tashkent on Friday.

The two diplomats exchanged views about the current state and prospect of development of relations between Iran and Uzbekistan, the situation in Afghanistan, and interaction with other parties on the Afghan issue.

The readiness of the parties to continue constructive dialogue on the issues of post-conflict developments in Afghanistan, the provision of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and their involvement in regional processes were emphasized in the meeting, UzDaily reported.

The Iranian envoy confirmed that Iran will take part in the International Conference on Afghanistan, scheduled for July 2022 in Tashkent.

Kazemi Qomi and Norov also stressed the need for Iran and Uzbekistan to carry out the infrastructure, transport and energy projects in Afghanistan.

The meeting was also attended by the special representative of the president of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatilla Irgashev.
