Iran Facing Various Threats: Top General

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Warning of a variety of threats that the enemies pose to the Islamic Republic, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces urged the country’s military units to boost preparedness for both hard and soft wars.

Addressing a conference on training the armed forces, held in Qom on Sunday, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said while most countries in the world may face no threat or one type of threat, the Iranian military forces are countering a variety of threats.

Warning of the diverse cases of aggression, plots and threats against the Islamic Republic, the general said, “At the same time that we are facing hard military threats from big powers, (countering which has) its own necessities, we are facing other threats as well.”

He also noted that when the Iranian armed forces develop enough power to withstand the enemies in the field, they will be able to fight the soft war by controlling and managing the situation.

The top commander further pointed to the formation of the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group that had taken Iraq and Syria to the brink of collapse, saying while the terrorists benefitted from the backing of many countries and were provided with huge financial support, the devotion shown by many martyrs, including late Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, resulted in the establishment of sustainable security in Iraq and Syria.

Back in April, Major General Baqeri said all Iranian military forces are ready to give a decisive and crushing response to any threat at any level in such a way that the enemies of Iran would regret taking hostile action against the Islamic establishment.

In comments in December 2021, President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi cautioned the enemies that any bellicose move will draw such a decisive response from the Iranian military forces that it will bring about a significant change in strategic equations.
